Face the Facts! The Indisputable Importance of Planned Giving NOW

By Stefanie Marsden, Relationship Manager

Do you have a plan to increase support for your church or nonprofit over the course of the next few years? Does it focus on planned giving? If it doesn’t, it should! Churches and nonprofits alike are focusing more on these types of giving vehicles.

Many donors may have their church or favorite nonprofit listed as beneficiaries in their estate plan, but they might want to create an additional planned gift now. As a Relationship Manager at TPF, my expertise is centered around these types of giving vehicles. The choices are many! For example, donors may want to endow an annual pledge, or they may want to give to several nonprofit organizations through a Donor Advised Fund. These giving options are not just for the older generations; every generation can be philanthropic, and you don’t have to be a millionaire to do so. You can establish a planned gift with TPF for as little as $1,000.

But why now? According to Wealth-X’s Preservation and Succession: Family Wealth Transfer 2021 Report…

  • Some 680,000 individuals with a net worth of $5 million or more will transfer their wealth by 2030.
  • Approximately $18.3 trillion of collective wealth will be transferred by 2030.
  • Most individuals transferring wealth over the next decade ─ irrespective of wealth or tier ─ are currently between the ages of 70 and 80.
  • Philanthropy and sports are the two most popular interests of wealthy donors by far.

So, what can we DO to maximize our impact on mission?

Let’s talk about it. Seriously. There are so many options that can be beneficial for so many reasons, but donors can be easily confused and even unaware. Even a short conversation can make a huge difference. A few years ago, I spoke to a group of people in a Sunday school class. There weren’t many questions asked at the end, but as always, I left materials for them to take afterwards. A few months later, TPF received a call from a couple who had attended my presentation. This family had a passion for the youth of the church, and they wanted to ensure they had funding for the Youth Minister position. They set up an Endowment that funded that position for three years. It turns out, that single meeting resulted in a large amount of support for their church.

TPF is here for you. Our educational services are a key piece of who we are, and they can make all the difference when it comes to the sustainable success of your planned giving program. You can give us a call anytime, or easily schedule a meeting HERE. Additionally, our TPF Legacy Builder website is available and provides a litany of legacy planning resources. I hope you will find it as valuable as I do. Things are changing, and so are our donors. Let’s face the facts together!
