Empowering comfort and compassion

For over 60 years, TPF and Schreiner University have worked together to create a learning community that that is welcoming and supportive of diverse people and perspectives. Students from all colleges have touched people throughout our country. And perhaps none have had a greater impact than the ones who have participated in the nursing program.

“The Schreiner nurses were just wonderful,” said the late Elizabeth (Betty) Hall on many occasions. “It started when my husband, Bill, had been admitted to the hospital in grave condition, and all of us knew that he wasn’t going to be returning home. The nurses and student nurses with the Schreiner patches on their uniforms were kind and professional. They made that difficult time so much easier.” she explained. “It was then and there that I decided I wanted to do something to help the Schreiner nursing program, both while I was alive and through my estate.”

Soon thereafter, Betty established the William G. Hall Endowed Nursing Grant, which has been assisting student nurses ever since. She also created her first charitable remainder trust, which added a large sum to her family’s named endowment at her death in 2014.

But this loyal and loving donor had other ideas for helping, too. Tyler attorney and former TPF Board member, Mike Allen, worked with Betty to create a thoughtful plan that would help two family members and then provide permanent funds for two institutions. She chose TPF to be the manager of this fund, knowing it would receive dedicated, professional treatment at all times.

An alumna of University of California at Berkeley, Betty also wanted to express her gratitude to her hometown and college. After the deaths of her family members, her large charitable trust will distribute income forever. Half will go to UC Berkeley and half will support nursing scholarships for Schreiner.

Betty Hall started helping Schreiner nurses in 1998. Her willingness to learn about planned giving options and her deeply generous spirit have created a lasting legacy, blessing hard-working college students from California to Texas…forever!
