Market Spotlight for 2023: TPF Experts Talk and We Listen

By The Rev. Dr. Rick Young, TPF’s President

I may be a little biased when I talk about TPF’s webinars, but our recent webinar, “The Word on the Street: 2022 Overview and Investment Q&A,” was a homerun. With a record-setting attendance and registration, this event provided valuable information, a lively overview, and many thoughtful audience questions.

But what do you REALLY need to know? According to our partners, the most salient points include the following:

  • Market Overview: John Furlow, TPF’s Executive Vice President, Kris Katarski, Senior Consultant, Segal Marco Advisors and John Ross, Senior Vice President and Co-Head of the Risk Management Group for Segal Marco Advisors discussed the equity and bond markets as well as some of the other investment opportunities that are available to the investor. 2022 was a tough year for both the equity and bond markets, yet there were signs of hope.
  • Expert Opinion of John Ross: John Ross brought his expertise to the webinar through his review of Segal Marco Advisor’s forward-looking assumptions and risk management. Mr. Ross stressed the importance of asset allocation and explained to the audience how TPF, with the help of Segal Marco Advisors, reviews and sets the asset allocation for the TPF Balanced Fund. Note: The TPF Board of Trustees and Investment Committee maintain responsibility for final asset allocation approval.
  • Where Do We Go from Here: Following 2022, many asked what will 2023 bring? As a follow-up to John Ross’ forward-looking assumptions, the three hosts discussed the strategic method used by TPF to provide our partners with the greatest return with the lowest risk. This coming year will present challenges and volatility, yet January brought good news and returns.
